today
Freddie Prinze Jr turned 33 and James Van Der Beek turned 32. Despite my penchant for indie and arthouse cinema, The WB Prime Years (1996-2002) was my favourite period in TV/movie history*.
*1998-1999 was the best year: Buffy season 3, Creek season 2, She’s All That, Cruel Intentions, Varsity Blues, American Pie, Roswell begins, the short-lived and underrated Popular premieres.
Can’t Hardly Wait includes appearances from Seth Green (Buffy), Clea DuVall (Buffy, She’s All That, The Faculty), Jennifer Love Hewitt (Party Of Five, I Know What You Did Last Summer), Sean Patrick Thomas (Save the Last Dance, Cruel Intentions), Leslie Grossman (Popular), Breckin Meyer (Road Trip, Clueless), Donald Faison (Clueless and later Scrubs), Eric Balfour (Buffy), Selma Blair (Zoe, Duncan, Jack & Jane, Cruel Intentions), Nicole Bilderback (Whitney in Bring It On, also one of The Cordettes from Buffy, she was in the Creek for a bit as well as Clueless and 7th Heaven which I never watched), Sarah Rue (Popular), Melissa Joan Hart (Sabrina, Drive Me Crazy) to name some of the teen stars, cementing it in my mind as the ultimate WB Prime Years Movie.
(Jason Segel, Liv Tyler, Lauren Ambrose, Jerry O’Connell, Jaime Pressly and Freddy Rodriguez are other notables).
